Why these parts of England? Well now, let’s see…

Little lanes which lead to new gentle adventures. The endless stretch of Cley salt marshes. Sea-breezes and a sense of space. The winding creeks of Nelson’s childhood sailing grounds. The meanders of the Stour and slopes of Dedham Vale on young Constable’s school run. Huge flint churches with the finest-ever flushwork. Pastel-washed cottages and beam upon beam of Lavenham’s medieval magic. Stiles and kissing gates. The greenest fields dotted with poppy-reds, the biggest, bluest skies speckled with flocking birds. A house in the clouds on the Thorpeness horizon. A huge scallop on Aldeburgh beach. A half-pint of Orford smoked prawns. Maltings and mills. Market towns and memories. So many reasons to push your pedals this way again.

Great places to stay…

Converted flint-faced barns or an old inn on a leafy Georgian square, a hidden stately manor, a pantiled pub gone warmly provençal; half-timbered coaching inn confections and the smartest seaside hotels.

Our accommodation in East Anglia is not just comfortable, but brimful of character. In Suffolk, our special single centre breaks feature a Tudor mansion and more modern club hotel. These, like all our establishments, are well-located for your gentle adventures, but also offer great leisure facilities so you can really relax into your time away.

All our accommodation is of a very high standard, with many hotels and B&Bs awarded three or more stars according to national classifications. We also feature a couple of five-star B&Bs which have won the much-coveted gold award for quality.

Further food for thought…

Cromer crabs. Suffolk ham. Refreshing ciders. Fine asparagus tips. Newmarket sausages. Colman’s mustard. Suffolk honey. Fresh farm eggs. Norfolk turkey. Salty samphire. Adnams ale. Smoked oysters by the dozen. Crisp white wines. Creamy cheeses.

Making sure you get a taste of the place

Our hotel stays in Suffolk and Norfolk are arranged on a bed and breakfast basis but in our route notes, we point out great places to stop for lunch, tea, a picnic or refreshing pint. We also give tips for evening meals, either at the hotel or nearby restaurants.

Getting to the start of your adventure

Suffolk and Norfolk may be wonderfully rural, but you don’t have to have a car to get to your first port of call. Our UK cycle tours start points are designed to be accessible by rail, although it may be necessary to add a short local taxi transfer to your journey. We can help organise that, or if you do come by car, sort you out with free parking for the duration of your stay.

In Suffolk, Needham Market station is most convenient for our main tours whereas Woodbridge or Manningtree stations serve our single centre breaks followed by a taxi transfer. In Norfolk, travel by train to Thetford or Attleborough and take a short taxi transfer to the hotel where your tour will start.

And one final, but very down to earth thought to leave you with…

When you’re pedalling past the Norfolk reed-beds at Cley at the end of the day… Look up to see the redbrick windmill basking in the warm glow of the evening sun. When you’re down in the water meadows of the Dedham Vale… Look up and catch the exact glimpse of the landscape that captured Constable’s imagination all those years ago. When you’re peering through the window of some half-timbered antique shop in the Wool Towns… Look up and be wowed by the craftsmanship lavished on the construction of the medieval building itself. When you’re standing by the meandering creeks of Burham Overy Staithe, thinking of the boy Nelson learning to ‘go about’… Look up and share his enormous horizons. When you’re dwarfed by that giant of a church in Lavenham… Look up and drink in the sheer opulence of so many medieval glass windows.

Wherever you look up in Norfolk and Suffolk, the vast panorama of East Anglian sky will wrap itself gently around you and lend a different perspective… so much more soothing than a gel saddle!
