Staying in Strasbourg old town, there’s plenty to see directly on your doorstep, but chances are, you’ll want to take to two wheels and explore the vibrant city with a self-guided tour along its extensive network of cycle paths. When it comes to heading out of town, you’re spoilt for choice with four scenic day rides. Which highlights will you pick? Historic Colmar and the Alsace ‘Grand Crus’ Wine Road around Riquewihr (train and tour)? Molesheim and the La Bruche wine route canal? The deep forests of the German Rhine borderlands or the charming woodland gardens of the Château de Pourtalès Robertsau along the Rhine?
There is a choice of excellent circular rides exploring the historic towns and villages, castles and vineyards of the Alsace Wine Road and Franco-German borderlands of the Rhine. Train tickets are included for you and your bike to travel down into the heart of vineyard country (out to Sélestat/return from Colmar) and are valid for use on any one day of your stay.
Your base on this holiday is the Hotel du Dragon, a 3 star hotel on the main island in the heart of old Strasbourg town. Conveniently situated close to the cathedral and the waterways of the historic Petite-France, it combines tradition and comfort and has a charming courtyard terrace.
