Big blue skies, generally level terrain and exceptionally quiet lanes typify the border country of Suffolk and Norfolk, home of the beautiful Bressingham Gardens.

A gentle break in beautiful countryside.

Bressingham Gardens

Day One Arrive at Needham Market, explore the area and spend your first night in or near this small market town.

Day Two Cycle through pretty Suffolk lanes to Thornham Magna where you can see the recently restored walled garden before visiting the thatched, pre-Conquest church at nearby Thornham Parva. On across England's largest village green (stretching over 2 miles) at Mellis then over the Norfolk border to Bressingham, famous for its landscaped gardens and superb displays of herbaceous plants and heathers. You can stroll through the gardens or see them from the narrow gauge steam railways, part of the fascinating railway and steam museum. Your accommodation is a comfortable old coaching inn at Scole, near Diss.
(Rec 31: Min 26: Max 38 miles.)

Day Three Today you head for the rare and impressive medieval great hall at Wingfield Old College, with its walled gardens and topiary (across the lane there is another excellent country inn). On then to the pretty village of Debenham where you can browse the antique shops, perhaps detouring to the moated mansion and and beautiful gardens and parkland of Helmingham Hall. Relax with a cream tea before riding back through the pretty village of Coddenham.
(Rec 34: Min 24: Max 38 miles.)
