Which direction will your short break take you?
As well as heading into the bustling market town of Woodbridge with its tide mill, boatyards and marina on the River Deben, you’ll want to be seeking out some sea air perhaps, getting a taste for a local vineyard or letting some of Suffolk’s finest castles make a big impression.

Our selection of carefully planned routes cover distances from 14 to 35 miles to cater for first timers and experienced cyclists alike. We pride ourselves on ensuring that you get to enjoy the best the area and that you travel the distances which are most comfortable for you.

Head out inland to the north to visit the massive curtain wall castle with its charming mere at Framlingham, a delightful market town that is brimful of history. The longest crinkle-crankle wall in Europe is just down the road in the charming estate village of Easton, then there’s a bright white post mill on the green at Saxtead and a tempting selection of local wines to try at nearby Shawsgate.

Venture south to the Edwardian resort of Felixstowe and its cavernous Napoleonic fort at Landguard point before ferrying across the Deben and heading back up along the estuary through quaint villages to the fascinating ship burial site of warrior kings at Sutton Hoo just outside Woodbridge.

Quiet lanes lead up to the River Alde to snake down from Snape Maltings, the home of the famous Aldeburgh Music Festivals, to the historic harbour of Orford. Climb the castle keep for wonderful views of the haunting shingle spit of Orford Ness and the town’s winding creeks and oyster beds. It’s a great place for a short boat trip, or to savour the wonderful offerings of the local smokehouses at its delightful pubs and restaurants.

Still on paved roads, there’s a chance to edge out towards the coast along a wooded route through forests which have UFO tales to tell as you head for a hauntingly remote, but truly unforgettable coastal spot called Shingle Street. The clue’s in the name and it’s a breathtaking sort of place, but there are fascinating stories here of strange lines of shells, Martello towers and attempted World War II landings.
